MRRCS - Pfeiffer Field

FRIA Site eff.Sept 2023
NO Remote ID Required

Pfeiffer Field - Mount Rainier Radio Control Society's club-owned field in Roy, Washington.

Located on 85 acres in the shadow of Mount Rainier, our field was named in honor of Bob Pfeiffer. Bob, along with other founding members of MRRCS, was instrumental in acquiring the beautiful site we enjoy today.

In addition to our 300-foot asphalt & grass runways, you will find trees, fresh air, and plenty of wildlife in our peaceful, private corner of the great Pacific Northwest.

For our MRRCS members, we are happy to announce that in Sept 2023, Pfeiffer Field has it's Official FRIA (FAA Recognized Identification Area) designation approved by the AMA . No Remote ID required to fly at our field.

  • FRIA Site. As of Sept 2023, *NO REMOTE ID REQUIRED* at our field.  If you fly at Pfeiffer Field (MRRCS), you will NOT need to go out and buy a broadcast module for your "UAS" (Unmanned Aircraft System i.e. airplane, heli, drone, random remote controlled flying thing) to be compliant. Just being onsite at MRRCS will have you covered.  Please see additional FRIA Info from the FAA
  • FAA Recreational Pilot ID.  FAA REGISTRATION required to fly for ALL PERSONS flying at Pfeiffer Field.  You will still be required by the FAA to put your FAA Recreational Flyer Registration # on all of your "flying things." ( As you have already supposed to have have been doing since 2015) Please see additional FAA info here https://faadronezone-access.faa.gov/
  • TRUST Test.  TRUST TEST Certificate required to fly for ALL PERSONS flying at Pfeiffer Field. You should also make sure to carry that copy of your TRUST test certificate with you out to the field. (also a thing for the past couple of years.) Get some copies stuffed into your radio box - you'll be good to go!  Get your TRUST certificate from the AMA here: https://trust.modelaircraft.org/
  • Pit Area. Electricity at ALL of the tables. Large covered shelter with lights. Plenty of room to share a table, on even the busiest of days. Separate pad for starting larger aircraft.
  • Clubhouse. Club meetings, and other functions are held in our enclosed clubhouse. We have a refrigerator available for club members. There is a wood stove for chilly days, and plenty of tables & chairs to have your lunch - or bring your bluetooth speakers & hang out with other members & family.  Our field is a great place to have a picnic & watch the airplanes.
  • Other Amenities. Running water at the field is from our own well. There are two well-kept port-a-potties on site, and ample parking for all. Members are welcome to bring their camper for overnight stays  - there is electrical hook-up available.  (*Please see club rules re: extended stays.)
